Make your own liver sausage for dogs - recipe of the month

Dogs love liverwurst! Alongside dog treats, liverwurst is one of the most popular foods for training, education and motivation.

Unfortunately, most conventional liver sausage spreads contain pork. If it is undercooked, it can transmit the virus Aujeszky's disease and become dangerous for your four-legged friend.

In addition, many conventional liver sausage products for dogs often contain harmful nitrates, flavor enhancers, preservatives or other artificial additives.

We have therefore put together a quick and easy liver sausage recipe for dogs that you can easily make in your kitchen.

Recipe: Liver sausage for dogs with fennel

Ingredients:

• 250g chicken liver, turkey liver or beef liver (depending on what your dog particularly likes)
• 1/2 fennel bulb
• 1 pinch of salt
• ½ tsp herbs (parsley/marjoram/sage)
• Water as required for cooking

Preparation:

1. Cut the liver and fennel into 2 cm pieces.
2. Place both in a pan and cover with water. Bring the liver and fennel to the boil and then simmer over a low heat.
3. When the liver crumbles easily and the fennel is nice and soft, you can pour off the water. However, keep a cup of the cooking water to refine the consistency of the liver sausage.
4. Put the liver and fennel in a bowl and add the salt and herbs. Puree everything.
5. You can add a little cooking water to refine the consistency.
6. Allow everything to cool and treat your pet.

Turn "normal" liver sausage into a therapeutic snack

You can hide therapeutic powders in your homemade liver sausage. Depending on what ailments your dog has, you can simply add the appropriate powder to your dog's liver sausage. This type of feeding is also suitable for four-legged friends who refuse medication or other food supplements.

Homemade liver sausage for joint problems:

If your four-legged friend is struggling with limited joint function, such as stiffness or lameness, you can add our green-lipped mussel powder to the basic recipe and feed it to your dog for several days. Green-lipped muss el powder is also ideal as a daily supplement in the food as a preventative measure.
